Dublin Jerome’s Hot Start and Streaking Teams

Ohio Heats Up

Dublin Jerome (Ohio) is off to a hot start in 2021. The No. 1 team in Ohio, according to Laxnumbers.com, is 6-0 and is averaging 21 goals per game and allowing only 5.8. The Celtics scored at least 20 goals in each of their first four games, including a 20-15 win over St. Ignatius (Ohio) – the No. 3 team in the state. Their lowest scoring game was an 18-12 win over St. Xavier (Ohio) – the No. 6 team.

Marik Tzagrounis leads the team with 39 points and 18 assists this season. Carter Barco is seconds 38 points and 29 goals.

“Our whole defense has been great led by Senior LSM Will Ackert and senior Closed defenseman KJ Robbinett,” Head Coach Andy Asmo said. “Our two face off guys are Jack Donahue and Brady Sestilli both are having great years.”

Jackson Bryne (13 goals, 11 assists) and Ian Dean (9g, 2a) are among the team’s leading scorers.

Upper Arlington (Ohio) resides at No. 2 and is off to a 5-0 start with a 12-6 win over No. 5 Western Reserve Academy (Ohio) and a 13-5 win over No. 13 Thomas Worthington (Ohio). The Golden Bears’ defense has allowed only 17 goals this season.

St. Ignatius is the current No. 3 with a 3-3 record, followed by Hudson (Ohio) at 4-0 and Springboro (Ohio) at 4-1 rounding out the Top 5.

St. Xavier (Ohio), Western Reserve Academy (Ohio), Archbishop Moeller (Ohio), Mariemont (Ohio), and Sycamore (Ohio) round out the Top 10.

Last One Standing

There is one team left in Georgia with an undefeated record. Blessed Trinity (Ga.) is 12-0 and sitting at the top spot in the state. The Titans have notable wins over No. 2 Lambert (Ga.), No. 4 Westminster (Ga.) and No. 12 Greater Atlanta Christian (Ga.). They have one game remaining on the schedule against a current Top 10 team – an April 21 road game against No. 6 Roswell (Ga.). They finish the season against No. 17 Pope (Ga.).

Still Streaking

Several teams extended their winning streaks last week.

Bishop Shanahan (Pa.) extended its streak to 21 games with a 17-4 win over Daniel Boone (Pa.).

MICDS (Mo.) is now riding a 19-game streak. Landon Gelven leads the team with 26 points and 15 assists this season. Crawford Bundy is second with 22 points and leads the team with 13 goals. The Rams have the longest winning streak in the midwest.

A pair of Florida teams, Ponte Vedra (Fla.) and Belen Jesuit (Fla.) have 16 game streaks. In the South Region, Cardinal Gibbons (N.C.) has the longest streak at 18 games.

Out West, Torrey Pines (Calif.) is waiting to get started on April 14. The Falcons enter the year with an 18-game winning streak.

The teams with the two longest streaks in the nation have yet to play this season. Briar Woods (Va.)leads with a 43 game streak, followed by Westminster (Md.) at 37 games.

No Longer Streaking

St. Ignatius snapped the 25-game winning of Brother Rice (Mich.) on April 8. The Wildcats got 10 saves from Logan Rechin in the 9-7 victory. Andrew Wynocker scored five points (3 goals, 2 assists) and Kenneth Klubnik added four (1g, 3a) in the victory.

Tyler Barnett scored five points for St. Mary’s (Md.) to help the Saints topple Calvert Hall (Md.) 7-6 on April 9. Barnett scored four goals to lead the team in scoring. St. Mary’s scored the only two goals of the fourth quarter to take the lead and snap the Cardinal's 20-game winning streak against conference opponents. The loss ends Calvert Hall’s 19-game winning streak.

Career Marks

Red Lion (Pa.) junior Michael Wilburn crossed 100 career points last week. Wilburn scored five goals and one assist against Susquehannock (Pa.) on April 6 to push him past the 100-point plateau. He has 104 points through his first 25 career games. The attackman is averaging 7.5 points per game this season – up from 3.1 he averaged as a freshman. In 19 games during his rookie season, Wilburn totaled 59 points. He has 45 points through six games this season.

Benny Mayer surpassed 300 career points for Calvary Christian (Fla.) last week. The junior scored 12 goals and five assists in two games last week to give him 309 points for his career. This season, Mayer has 71 goals and 34 assists as the Warriors head into the playoffs.
